Alcoholism & Drug Abuse: Important Information & Tips

With the amount of people who become dependent on alcoholic substances rising annually, there has been an increased correlation between alcohol and drug abuse being addressed in cities across America. New studies suggest that prescription drug abuse has become more common than illegal narcotics, especially for those who have suffered from alcohol dependency.

According to ìMonitoring the Future,î the NIDA-funded 2008 Monitoring the Future Study showed that 15.9% of 8th graders, 28.8% of 10th graders, and 43.1% of 12th graders had consumed at least one drink in the 30 days prior to being surveyed, and 5.4% of 8th graders, 14.4% of 10th graders, and 27.6% of 12th graders had been drunk. This is alarming, especially when considering combined alcohol and drub abuse is growing in high schools and colleges around the country.

Through methods of raising awareness by informative presentations, internet awareness and outreach programs, we can make sure people become aware of the fact combining alcohol and prescription drugs can be a deadly combination.

Alcohol abuse can be a very dangerous alone and even more so due to the adverse side effects of mixing these two addictive substances. Drug Watch provides a comprehensive list drugs as well as drug side effects in an effort to help educate the public about these kinds of interactions. They are dedicated to offering balanced and unbiased information on medications to help consumers make informed decisions.

By providing FDA alerts, drug information, interactions and drug side effects about prescription and over the counter medications, we can ensure an environment where patients have the best knowledge on their medical treatment and health.

For a complete list of medications prescribed to battle alcoholism, and its associated side effects and interactions, also visit the alcoholism medication page on drug watch.
