How can I deal with my husband?

by Julie
(California)

I have only been married for a little over a year. My husband had smoked marijuana before we got married but said he had stopped after having our daughter.

I recently found out that he had been lying to me about going to work for two weeks and instead was out all night smoking and drinking. He knows that it was a deal breaker when it came to our marriage and he swore that he would never do it again because if he did he would be addicted.

I don't know what to do if he is addicted. I have a daughter who is nine months and would not want her to be around it if it continues. He knew how strongly I felt about him using it. He said he used it again because he was stressed out about money. I feel that if we have another problem he will go back and eventually never stop.

Is it too late for him to quit for good and what do I have to do for myself and daughter in this situation?

There Is Always Hope
by: Ned Wicker

Dear Julie,

The lying and the broken promises are part of the pattern for substance use disorder. Don't believe him. If left unchecked, his disease will eventually push you and your daughter aside, and he'll blame it on you, blame it on stress, or blame it on anything but himself.
He doesn't think he has a problem. Call Al-Anon, as they are dedicated to helping people just like you. They can guide you through he process of learning how to help him get into treatment. They've been through this many times.

Also, the e-book offered on this site is a best seller. Toby Rice-Drews understands you. She's been there.
