I relapsed and need help?

by Faith

I had 110 days clean and sober. I slipped up on the 14th and 15th of this month. (yesterday and the day before) What can I do?

Meetings have never helped me (usually I have stopped at a store after a meeting for a bottle). I used to take an antidepressant but I stopped taking it because I couldn't figure out if it was helping me (or not).

I think I need to talk to a professional. What do you recommend? My family is really pulling for me and they are proud of my clean time. I am restless all the time.

Thank you for this website, and for reading thus far.

Keep Moving Forward
by: Ned Wicker

Dear Faith,

Recovery isn't necessarily a straight, smooth path. We all have difficulties, but the important thing, as those in AA can attest, it works if you work it. You had 110 days, so celebrate that, put the two day slip behind you, and keep moving forward.

Seeing a professional is a good idea, as they are highly training and dedicated. The meetings are also important. You may want to examine alternative meetings to whatever ones you have been attending. Churches often have strong programs, such as "Celebrate Recovery."

If one AA group isn't working for you, maybe try another. You just have to find something that works for you. It's a matter of perspective. You are concerned about two bad days. I see 110 days and say "Way to go Faith!!"

Hey Faith,

Firstly I'd say don't beat yourself up at all. Think about this you have been sober for 110 days! Why concentrate on the 2 days that you relapsed?

Meetings have never helped me either, I find them depressing and to be honest I don't like hanging around other problem drinkers in such a personal way.

I have been searching the net for help for quite sometime. I have bought a few programs but some of the best stuff I found was free. There's a great free resource at http://www.stopdrinkingalcohol101.com/ which has helped me.

It has a section on continuing your alcohol free life which is very relevant to what you are going through right now.

I hope this helps and all the best :)
